My favorite gigs of 2024. A bit delayed as I just got back from driving all over California for the holidays and I’m still jetlagged. How many shows did I shoot? No idea, but it was a shit-ton. Truth is that I don’t post all my photos here beyond my reviews on TVD and my personal blog. Either way it was a great year for music and photos. I’m continuing to push the limits of my camera and my ability. I’ve fucked up a few, but nailed the ones I needed to . Here’s the top 10 shows and top 10 photos to match.
Sex Pistols with Frank Carter – Something I thought I’d never see let along be in the pit to photograph. My all time favorite band playing my all time favorite album. Pure magic.
Mika – Absolutely stellar visuals and some of the best pop music I’ve ever heard.
Jane’s Addiction – A warm up show in a venue that holds just 150 people and a few weeks before the meltdown. I thought they sounded great and the chemistry looked to be back. I was wrong.
Barns Courtney/ The Struts – The perfect rock n roll pairing and my intro to what would become my favoirte album of the year from Barns Courtney. The Struts were equally as brilliant.
Liam Gallagher – Celebrating 30 years of Definitely Maybe, primed for the big reunion, this was epic.
Noel Gallagher – Another of my favorite albums of 2024, Council Skies from Noel Gallagher is by far his best solo work.
Tom Morello – Finally got to see Tom live and the mashup of Rage songs along with his solo work and collaborations whipped the Electric Ballroom into a frenzy as a warmup to his Download performance.
Filter – Richard Patrick has not only delivered their best album since The Amalgamut, the band are at the peak of their powers with the live show. Crazy difficult lights, but who fucking cares.
Beast in Black – You know I love my metal, these guys are the best power metal band on the planet in my opinion. They write hooks that could make metal accessible to Taylor Swift fans, and I mean that in a good way.
Jesus Jones/ EMF – Another one of those gigs that I never thought I’d see. Absolutely brilliant sets from both bands and so much fun to shoot.
